It’s been an incredible busy and quick week.
I’m writing this from a RV park about 12 miles from our house. We packed our RV this past week and then moved today to our current location where we’ll wait for final settlement on the house. Concurrent with packing the RV our household goods were being prepared for the estate sale taking place this coming week. All of this on top of physically testing and preparing all the electrical, plumbing and mechanical systems of the RV.
It’s been an amazing mental and emotional roller coaster ride of which I’m not certain we’ve had the time to entirely absorb. All I know tonight is I’m tired and feeling a little numb but it’s nice to have some separation from the activity taking place where we use to call home. They tell us they think it will be a good estate sale and have already had 1100+ views of the website sale listing. I’m so glad we have someone handling all this.
We’ve discovered the most stressed member of our family is on four legs. Maggie destuffed one of favorite toys this week, which she’s never done before, and insisted upon sleeping on our bed last night, again new for her. We all will need a little time to adjust.
This first very short RV hop went well and I feel comfortable with the process of taking down, moving and setting up the RV.
I’ll write more on some of our observations when we’ve had more time to understand their relevance.
Congrats on moving into your RV! Yes, I expect there will be some adjustment period for your dog, but as long as she has you two, I am sure she will be fine. Sadie always gets a little nervous when we start packing up to go somewhere, but she knows that the motor coach is home, sweet, home. Hope all goes well with your estate sale.
Thank-you, Kathy. Today seemed to be a much better day for Maggie. Perhaps the smartest thing we’ve done is to contract someone to take care of everything for this estate sale.
I had to chuckle when I read your last sentence – that you’d provide more commentary on your observations when you’ve “had more time to understand their relevance”. No wonder Maggie is eating her toys! The whole world has been turned upside down. Dogs are notorious for being conservative creatures – change is probably their least favorite thing. But she’ll survive. As will you. Just keep focused on that big open road ahead and all of those places that you’re going to get to explore.
Paul, I’ll admit I’ve been focused on the technical aspects and requirements of this new venture to the point, perhaps, of not fully addressing the personal emotional/mental impact of these major life changes. Today, our first day at the campsite, was a much needed down day. Maggie had a better day today and I feel much more relaxed.
We’re certainly looking forward to pulling out of here and heading down the road in a couple of weeks. Thanks!
It may well take several posts to write on those relevant observations. That’s fine with me. Glad you’re not chewing your stuffed toys.
Monte, there have been a few times I would have liked to have destuff something — luckily those moments passed quickly. Thanks!
The real fun is just beginning!
Yes, I believe so, Steve!
Well, they say dogs like consistency, and I think you have awhile before you will experience that again. :-) no doubt she will adapt to being a travelin canine. I can only imagine the range of thoughts going through both of your heads. Thanks for taking us along for a little piece of the adventure.
Thanks, Mark. I’m not sure what “consistency” will look like for us in the future–as a matter of fact we were kinda wanting life’s which were interestingly inconsistent. :-)
Whatever the final results might look like, I think we’ll be able to adapt–Maggie was better today and in a week or so I believe she’ll come to see this as home.
Congratulations, Earl, I think Bonnie and you are progressing marvellously. The first night in the new home always is something special, and it looks like both of you are able to make the best out of it. And Maggie certainly will adapt when you continue to provide her the necessary stable framework. My best wishes go with you that things continue as well as they did up to now.
Thank-you, Markus, for your best wishes! Things have went well for us thus far and we also hope they continue. :-) As a matter-of-fact the amazing timeline and sequence of events that’s made this all possible may soon be a topic of a stand-alone blog post.
