We found this Poinsettia Bush in a local park during one of our morning walks. Only a few of the leaves had turned this dramatic scarlet red, although there was hints of a subdued purplish-red in some of the others leaves — very holiday like with traditional red and greens of Christmas.
I’m reading everything I can these days on RV’ing and driving a 5th wheel camper. I’m determined to be knowledgeable on the subject if not experienced. The experience will come. I only need not to make stupid mistakes until it does and I’m hoping exposure through reading of the knowledge and experiences of others will bridge the gap.
One of the tips repeatedly mention when maneuvering in uncertain territory is to use the GOAL (Get Out And Look) method. Funny how that’s an analogy to what we’re doing in our lives at this point — finding ourselves in uncertain territory, we’re getting out to look!
This old life/new life transition became real this week. The discussions, the planning, and even purchasing of a truck and RV still didn’t impart that heads-up sense of reality. What’s made it real was the selling of our Mercedes Benz SLK and all my Nikon Camera equipment. Now it’s not planning, it’s not a future step to be taken, it’s actual, the bona fide removal of our old lives. It’s a relief, a weight lifted, no more looking back, eager to move forward.
Thanks to all of you for listening to the repeated rehashing of my thoughts on all this. This blog serves in part as a sounding board and I appreciate the indulgence and any feedback.
I had asked our real estate agent to let me take the photographs to be used for selling of our house. I finished them this week and they can be viewed HERE. If you know anyone in the area (Salisbury, NC) or anyone who would like to move to the area and are in need of a great house…let me know! :-)
That reminds me of a time when Kathy and I were at the visitor center at Craggy Gardens and a guy came in complaining about how there weren’t many rhododendrons in bloom. The ranger looked at him and very politely said, “sir, you might need to get out of the car.”
Nice job with the house photos, Earl. I did the same thing when we sold our house and I really think it helped. Good luck with the sale, and good luck with the driving lessons!
That’s a lovely house you have there Earl. You’ve done a great job with the photos. Good luck with the sale.
Letting go is difficult. However, I do not think you will regret it. I’m following along with you.
Mistakes happen – seemingly stupid or not. It’s how we learn. Or so I’ve been told. Nice image, Earl…
Yes, a very lovely home, Earl. I don’t think I’d want to move out of there! And such a nice “man-cave”……
Thanks everyone!
What a beautiful house. If that was in the UK where we are starting to look I’d buy it
Thanks, Andy! I hope someone is looking to buy here fairly soon. :-)
I think the #1 rule is “Beware of low bridges” Earl.
Believe me, Mark, that’s something I’ve been thinking about…especially since our 5th Wheel is 12’8″ tall. I’ve tried to cover it in three ways, a RV/Truckers GPS, height restriction POI’s (5000+) with 2 mile proximity warnings loaded to both the GPS and my Google Maps, and a Motor Carriers’ Road Atlas. What over-prepared, not me! ;-)
Earl, lovely pictures of the house. I’m sure that it’s probably almost sold! Wow! All of the Nikon gear, gone! That’s serious! Where did you sell it? I’m about to part with mine, too, sticking with the Olympus OM line. No 5th wheel for me, though. :)
Thank-you, Paul. The house listing, originally planned for 1 December, was pushed up to this past Friday due in part to reactions from these photos. We’re having two viewings this first weekend.
I sold all the Nikon gear on eBay…lots of bids and what I thought was a decent price. I think you might be more of a self-contained RV type of guy, Paul. :-)
