Thanks, Ken. I have to admit the top photo is much “stronger” in black and white then I initially thought it would be. Sometimes color can be a distraction.
Paul, thanks. I was using my Nikon D600 with a Tamron 200-500mm lens at 500mm. I seldom use this lens but when I do I’m always pleased, and sometimes shocked, by it’s sharpness — something that seems more apparent with the D600 (24mp) then it was with the D700 (12mp.)
I can’t help but get lost in those eyes. Excellent job with these owl images (including the one in your previous post). I have only ever seen one owl up close but have always been intrigued by them.
Cedric, I find them to be very interesting birds of prey. I don’t know know exactly where the saying “Wise Old Owl” originated and I don’t know they strike me as being particularly wise but they are very alert.
Yeah, I got an email notice for the fall PhotoWild event the other day but I think I might skip this one. I did last fall and then the one this spring.
Very nice portraits, Earl. Hope all’s well in your part of the world.
Hi Tom, thanks. Things are progressing here…we’ll have to get together soon and catch each other up on all the “happenings.” :-)
I think the top photo is my favorite that you have posted from your last visit to the Raptor Center, Earl. It’s just gorgeous.

Nice portraits Earl. I like the spot lighting.
Mark, thanks…spot lighting compliments of post-processing! :-)
Great quote!
That quote struck a cord with me also, Steve.
I agree with Ken. That top image is beautifully done, Earl. Which camera and which lens were you using?

I agree with the quote! That top photo is definitely a keeper. Have you printed it yet?
Monte, I haven’t printed it yet but I’m considering it.

Very nice, Earl. Every time that you post one of the photos from the Raptor Center, I go back into mine and have a look. :)
