I checked out the Shaken & Stirred website and this seems like a pretty user-friendly theme. I’d love to find a blog template that is as easy to use as my website (Neon Sky) and this might fit the bill.
Tom, This “quote post” wasn’t supposed to be open for comments but there still a few bugs I’m working out so you got in there. LOL :-)
If starting out with a new blog I think this theme would have been a snap to use but with the way it’s handling excerpts and certain limitation on adjusting font sizes it’s been a bear so far to get my previous data/posts to display the way I want it to. Of course that doesn’t mean that your data would work it’s just my data was created to take advantage of the previous theme features and so now is being difficult.
Sorry, but glad I was able to help you test it! I’ll wait until you’ve had a chance to use it some more before I decide. Sounds like a need to do some research.
I’ll be happy to share my findings with you if you decide you want to explore this theme further. I’ve got most of the problems I’ve experienced worked out.
Ha ha! Shaken and Stirred was in my favorites for themes I liked. I remember checking them out awhile back, but can’t remember what I couldn’t do with it. I like their style.
I like this grid theme because I think the home page presents a lot of posts and images well with a more modern feel. However, it certainly hasn’t been painless getting to this point. WordPress excerpts and featured images play heavily in the control of what’s presented and I had over six years of history which for the mostly didn’t utilize either of those features. A couple of plugins solved part of the problem, modifications of a little of the page code and SQL database update scripts took care of the rest. Now it’s fixing a few cosmetic issues.
The good thing is I finally had the foresight to do the customizations using a child theme so I can still update the parent without problems…hopefully.
Ah, yeah, that was it – Featured Images was what stopped me from exploring it further. I only have featured images since I have been using my Elegant Theme – and those are a specific wide format. Then prior to that, like you, I don’t have any.
So I wasn’t quite sure how to adapt what I had into the “box” by the shaken/stirred format.
I’m still working the featured image issue but I have pieces of php code that will take the first image in a post and set it as the featured image. I need to create a php loop to read all my old posts and if there’s not already a featured image and there is an image in the post, set the first image as the featured image — yeah that’s all I need to do…after backing up my database of course. :-)

Not a problem…

Tom, I decided to open this post up for general comments since we’ve already had an exchange here. :-)

What can I say, “Great minds, etc.” :-)
