The book project which grew from photos taken for the Rowan Helping Ministries Calendar Project is finished…at least for now. It’s a sizable download (6mb) but you can view the PDF by clicking the image below.
I’m not certain I’ll have a copy printed. It may stay in electronic form.

Follow-up: After posting this and receiving a couple of comments from friends I discovered I had mistakenly posted an earlier pre-proof layout test copy with a number of layout, spelling and grammar mistakes. I made the mistake of not checking the PDF file content after uploading, I just made sure it would load when the image was clicked. This newer version may not be perfect…but hopefully it’s better than the draft copy. Sorry and thanks to all who have pointed out problems.
Now, this was a good way to make use of all the images you would have chosen, if it was your personal calendar. Congratulations to a well performed mission! *whispering* You might want to change this pdf into another one, without those darn typos on the title and colophon pages. :-)
Ove, thanks for the “whisper” but with all those mistakes it probably deserved a “shout.” :-) When I checked I discovered I’d uploaded a pre-proof draft copy rather then the final version and didn’t catch it. Hopefully the current copy looks and reads a little better.
Congratulations on an outstanding book. Earl, you should be so very proud of this. It is exceptional.
I understand the decision to not print, but it is a bit sad to me. Maybe a folio? This is such a lovely piece and work and I suppose my old-fashioned tastes are showing when I say that as marvelous as the electronic version is—and thank goodness for it, since I am a grateful beneficiary of the technology—I would hope the work would be seen in a print form other than the calendar.
I hope I am not being rude by offering to point out two typos at the end of the book. Please let me know if you are interested.
Anita, thanks, you were being kind to only mention two typos…thanks to Ove and your comments, I discovered I’d uploaded an earlier pre-proof draft copy instead of the final version. :-(
The “final” version is loaded now.
Nicely done, Earl!
I noticed that you made a similar spelling mistake that I did on my recent folio–“Forward” should be “Foreword”, unless you mean as in “Forward March!” Also, I noticed somewhere in there there is a “baptish” instead of “baptist”. Just pointing these out in case this is something that you will be passing on to folks at work or in the various churches.
Again, nice work!
Thanks Eric, I made those corrections. I appreciate it. It wouldn’t have been so bad if I would have posted this version in the first place but now I feel like it’s turned into a comedy of errors…so to speak. ;-)
The photos are amazing, Earl. You are to be commended for doing an outstanding job. I hope that there is a great deal of success as far as sales go and that benefits a lot of folks. Outstanding!
Ken, thanks. I found out yesterday I’ll be adding three more churches to this group and next years calendar may be another group of 20 or so different churches so this “book” or series may continue to grow. I’ve thought about making it a project this next year to photograph as many of the churches in Rowan County as I can, in this style. . Again thanks.
Knowing in advance that you will need to do a similar project next year, perhaps you can shoot at different times of the year and offer them up as consideration of possible candidates for the calendar. Just thinkin’.
Good thought. I believe they’re going to take request from supporting churches if they want to be a featured in next years calendar. I may know who to shoot early enough to give more flexibility in photographing them.
Earl, All I can say is outstanding!!
Steve, I appreciate that. Thanks!
Congratulations, Earl! That is a stunning collection of great photographs.
I’d highly recommend printing the book, seeing the photographs on paper rather than electronic is always a huge reward and you did such an amazing job with this book! I particularly love the image of the First Reformed Church. The soft, feathery clouds stand in great contrast to the symmetrical architecture and really lead the eye into the image.
I hope that plenty of calendars are being sold so that many can appreaciate your wonderful work and that a lot of people in need can be helped from the profits.
