At the one end of Lake Sequoyah it narrows and ends with a small over-flow dam. This photo (map link) was taken from the lake side looking across the water and overflowing dam giving the illusion of an infinity or disappearing edge. Bright fall colors reflect in the smooth waters from beyond that edge.
When first viewing this scene it took a moment to realize what I was seeing — I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me.
It is a bit disorienting at first glance. Great use of that ‘edge’ Earl. A very eye-catching photo.
PJ, yes this does cause some double takes. Thanks.
It’s kind of what the edge of the earth might look like.
Steve, perhaps so…but with nothing beyond it but deep space to reflect. :-)
It’s a weird effect but strangely beautiful.
“Weird but strangely beautiful,” yeah, I’ll go with that! :-)
Thanks, Ken
What a breathtaking sight! I particularly love the refelctions of the red leaves, they are stunning.
Martina, thanks, the reflection is even more beautiful than the original in this case.
That sharp edge does provide an interesting illusion. It makes an eye-catching quality to already beautiful fall shot.
Don, thanks. It did take my brain a few moments to figure out what my eyes were seeing on this one.
Wow, very cool Earl. I don’t think I have seen something quite like that. But when you know it is a drop off, I suppose it makes sense. Good seeing.
Thanks, Mark. Yeah, strange and unique…almost to the point of not looking real. I’ve seen this effect designed into swimming pools but never like this.
I always thought those infinity pools were pretty cool also.
What an optical illusion. I had to take off my glasses and look closer at the monitor. :-) Nice affect, Earl.
Monte, I initially did the old double take as well. Thanks!
I’ll admit to doing a double-take – what an odd effect to see in a natural scene!
