Finding a few unexpected free hours yesterday afternoon I grabbed my camera and visited a local shooting spot I haven’t been to in months, Cooleemee River Park, The Bullhole, on the Yadkin River. It was cold with the temperature hovering at 38°F, 30 mph wind gust, feeling like 25°F. I didn’t initially think I’d need gloves but when I could no longer discern my finger pushing the shutter release I dug a “just-in-case” pair out of my coat pocket.
There’d been snow showers earlier in the morning and the last of a front was moving through for a compelling sky with high fast moving fluffy white clouds against a clear cold blue. It was a good day to shoot…but then when isn’t it! ;-)
what a beautiful scene! great work
Thanks, Olivier.
I’ve just done the conversion to Celsius… that’s definitely cold enough to have me reaching for the gloves! This looks like a great place to shoot.
It is a nice place to shoot and you can bet I’ll start off with gloves next time.
You’ve captured a very cold looking river on a clear, wintry day. Beautiful clouds. I don’t like the sound of that much wind chill.
Thanks, Don. I hope you’re having a good weekend.
Just the sort of day during which I wimp out for sure. However, I’m awfully glad you stuck around for this. Hmmm. Makes me want to see that spot. Beautifully done.
Have you ever tried silk liners under cozy gloves? They make a world of difference for me. I can still use my hands well, yet the silk keeps those pinkies amazingly warm.
You make me laugh. I’ve experienced those times when there was not feeling in my hands and those times when there was only pain due to the cold. However, it is important for us to venture out into nature and feel it, warmth or cold. And, I agree Earl, is there ever a day when it’s not a good day? Stay warm!
ok, I hope I won’t be viewed too wimpy by saying I will take gloves anything colder than 45! Love those clouds.
Very powerful shot, looks like a nice trout stream.
Such a beautiful place!
Thanks, all!
