Take moderately low lighting, a steady breeze and a bright colored flower with petals fluttering like reeds in a wind instrument. Throw in a slightly longer exposure time with a little adjustment in Lightroom and this is what you get.
I like the softness of the flower, especially the almost translucent look of the petal edges.
The title came to mind because the temperature this week it’s barely going to make it 40°F, dropping down to a chilly 16°F by early Wednesday morning. Summer will certainly be only a “blur” by the weeks end.
Ummmm. Make that by Tuesday morning! When I went for my walk this morning, it was 16 degrees. We cut it short because, even with his styling new jacket, my pup was shivering after about a 1/2 mile, so we came back. He can deal with 28, but not 16. :) Oh well, try again tomorrow … maybe. Maybe I’ll have to go solo.
Paul, yeah, we (dogs and I) haven’t done a early morning walk now for a couple of days. I switched to a late afternoon walk, when I get home from work…at least it’s in the 30’s by then. :-)
Nice one Earl. We may see 30 degrees here in Montana today. It’ll be like T-shirt weather after our recent siege of below zero temps.
PJ, you can have those temperatures. That’s a bit too cold for my taste. :-)
I like the soft look of this image and the amount of dark area that gives the colored spots lots of impact. Fine work.
Hi Don, thanks! Yes, I agree the dark area adds to the impact.
we had a blast of cold air just before Thanksgiving with temperatures down in the low twenties. For us, it was darn cold. It did put to rest the rest of the garden, so ends 2010!
Steve, Yeah, I’ve seen you’ve been having some real winter storms out there. That close to the coast would make the cold even worst because of the dampness.
I like your effects on this on, Earl. And, the color contrast is very appealing to me. I flew through Charlotte this morning so I know about your cold. It’s interesting to see the expression on peoples faces when the captain tells them what the temperature in Charlotte will be when they get there.
Monte, I saw on the weather this morning that even in central Florida it dropped to below freezing last night…now there would be some wide-eyed looks on peoples faces. Thanks.
LOL. Actually we were flying from Sarasota to Charlotte, so those people were not looking forward to your temperature. Maybe they wouldn’t mind it today.
Speaking of cold, here’s a fun fact–our corporate plane was delayed for two hours in Tampa this morning because Tampa does not have equipment to de-ice a plane. They did it the old fashion way…Mother Nature.
Who’d expect it! :-)
What’s that – a flower? I vaguely remember what those were – haven’t seen them in a long time up here in Michigan. Seems all I see now are twigs and dried leaves. The season of brown has engulfed me. As winter approaches, it is all to easy to forget flowers (and color for that matter! :-) ) – so thanks for the reminder.
Mark, when posting this image the vision came to mind of huddling around a small candle in a snow storm rubbing hands for warmth. This bright flower among all the browns I now see each day draws me in the same way. It may be a long and cold winter if this early start is any indication. Stay safe and warm!
Great image, Earl, and when I woke up the other day, all I could think of was exactly what you’re talking about: where the heck did summer go?
Very nice photo. Summer? What summer?
