While the weather Saturday at Bald Head Island was beautiful, the previous evening a strong wind was whipping up white topped waves in the channel between Southport and Bald Head.
However, this didn’t seem to dissuade people from being out and about both on shore and on the water. Part of it was the fact it was Friday, the end of a week, and many people were arriving for a needed weekend getaway.
Another major factor was the annual U.S. Open King Mackerel Tournament, $100k+ in prizes, was running through Saturday. Everywhere you looked, on the water and docked, were boats of various size lined with multiple fishing gear at the ready.
As rough as the water was Friday, I suspect some of those fishermen were hanging over the rails feeding the fish.
I would have been! ;-)
