I often think of my work as visual haiku. It is an attempt to evoke and suggest through as few elements as possible rather than to describe with tremendous detail. – Michael Kenna – in “PhotoWork Interview” – Premiere Issue 1997 / Vol. 1 No. 1 by Dean Brierly
One thing you learn as a photographer is to be aware of shapes and patterns you come upon in your daily travels. Today’s image was just such a case where the lines of wood planks and the shadows from a nearby tree branch caught my eye — a composition embracing the simplicity of only a few elements.
Post-processing was a matter of making these elements more prominent.
You might say the diagonal lines of boards create a pattern that’s attracted me before.
Very nice. Along with the shadows and the color contrast this makes for a really strong and effective image. Love it.
Andreas, thanks!
Nice pattern shot resulted. I like the subtly of the shadows across the boards.
Glad you liked it, Don.
lovely pattern, light and shadow :)
Mariana, I appreciate the kind words.
Mmmmm, either can’t I resist a beautiful wood plank. Shadow play is interesting on any surface, and on a surface like this, it can be almost spellbinding. I like this, too, it’s a wonderful image.
Hi Ove, Thanks…I believe spellbinding is an apt term in this case, at least for describing the way it attracts me. I’ve certainly spent many a moment staring into it.
Earl I think you would like the wooden boat school here. Nice
Ray, I don’t know anything about it but I’d bet I’d love that wooden boat school…just he sound of it is like a flame and me the moth. ;-)
This image rocks! I’m into the shapes and patterns of all that is around me so this resonates with me. And, the simplicity is oozing with power. Well seen, my friend.
