“”Black and White Photography” does more to evoke an emotion and freeze a moment in time than any other medium. Looking back over the decades at such famous photographers as, Steigletz, Weston, Adams, and others has helped elevate Black and White Photography, to a Fine Art form. The subtle tones of grays, the strong emphasis of the Blacks, and the softness of the Whites makes one look much closer at the subject and composition due to the lack of natural color. Emotions are always much easier to portray with Black and White, because of the stark contrasts and the sharp focus on the subject.” – Bob Snell
While this is technically a boardwalk, a more accurately description is the wooden floor of a pier, at night, under the illumination of a single handrail mounted light. I liked this image in color (yellows and blues) but decided the patterns and textures became more prominent in B&W, which first attracted me. Post-processing was handled in NIK Silver Efex and Adobe Photoshop, with a nudge here and there in Lightroom.
Another Canon S90 image. This one at 6mm, ISO640, f/2.8 with a 1 second handheld exposure time. I almost didn’t take this shot, thinking it was too dark for the little S90, or my shaking hands, to do justice to the details — I stand corrected.
This is a pretty cool shot Earl. I have been hearing a lot lately about the S90. The processing here is exceptional.
Hi Mark, thanks! I’m certainly finding the S90 to be more capable than I thought — and it easily slips into about any pocket.
This is way kool, Earl! You got some steady hands there. Not sure I could get the detail that you did. I love the experimenting I see others do and the results. Gives me ideas. Thanks for sharing.
Monte, I believe I only had 1 cup of coffee that day, not my normal 3-4. ;-) Thanks!
Cool frame . Good texture !
Thank you so much, Mariana!
A fine shot of the boardwalk. I’m glad you tried the long exposure. Amazing result!
Earl,
Love the Boardwalk. I’ve always love wood. Your photo show the detail in the grain, and the S90, along with it’s photographer captured it well. The composition is right on and the lighting is even and calming. Great photo Earl!
