I made a photo-trip to the Great Smoky Mountain National Park this weekend. It’s hot there, much like it’s been here, and people were trying to get away this weekend — campgrounds all had full signs up.
However, these wonderful clouds over the mountains were in no small part a result of that very heat and so for that I’m grateful.

The Smoky Mountains is an awesome place to visit. I made my first and only trip to spend a week there in October of 2003. Loved it. I sure do need to make another visit.
Monte, yes, it is a wonderful place to visit and a very popular one. It gets quite crowded during summer vacations.
I would love to get there one day, this picture is how I imagine it.
It’s well worth the time and travel, Don. It has an ageless feel and beauty to it and I’ve always felt a trip there “recharges my inner batteries.” ;-)
Fine layers and aerial perspective you present here. I love these nuances – good (for me) that you did not increase the contrast in postprocessing. It would probably have changed the mood of this afternoon image very much.
Markus, thank you. Certainly “over-doing” the contract would be an injustice to the mood of this scene. The Smokey Mountains are known for a natural haze which gives a softness when viewing their panorama.
A wonderful image. This is one of many places on my list of places to see!
Steve, thanks, and I believe you would probably really enjoy them.
