The next opportunity to capture a gulf coast sunset came as we ate dinner around 8pm outdoors along the docks at Guy Harvey’s Island Grill, in central Marco Island, FL — wonderful food I might add.
For convenience I’d pocketed my Canon S90 before leaving for dinner and took this photo while sitting at our table — a similar photo of this scene was published in an earlier post.
While admiring the developing view, I happen to glance behind and upward noticing how the colors of the building and sky seemed to pop in those last few moments of filtered warm light. I may like this photo better then the actual sunset.
Both photos were only slightly processed in LR2. As a note, I shoot in RAW format in the S90.
Love the colors in both images. I’m not into sailing but I am drawn to images of sailboats, especially when set against a sunset like this. Excellent image, definitely has a romantic feel to it.
Monte, thanks. Interesting about the romantic comment…I thought that same thing but thought it was because of having experienced the location.
The sailboat makes a good foreground element for the sunset shot. Nice colors on the building to…a fine graphic image.
Don, thanks! Since both were taken from a seated position I take much credit for composition. :-)
Thank goodness you didn’t ask us to choose a favorite. The two together are especially satisfying because the two pictures are so different in many ways. yet certainly fit into a beautiful color theme.
Hi Anita, both photos shared the same light so perhaps that is part of what ties them together as well. Good to hear from you.
