Erythrine herbacee , commonly known as the Coral Bean, Cherokee Bean, Red Cardinal or Cardinal Spear is a flowering shrub or small tree found throughout the southeastern United States and northeastern Mexico; it has also been reported from parts of Central America and, as an introduced species, from Pakistan.
The Coral Bean grows taller in warm climates and is sometimes used in gardens to attract hummingbirds early in the season.
This particular Coral Bean bush stood about 8-9 feet tall, part of the reason for upward photo angle, and was growing along one of the dirt roads we explored in southern Florida. I thought the Canon S90 was a good choice for what I wanted to capture with its wide lens and greater depth of field. The green trees and blue sky made an interesting backdrop from this angle.
I really like the second image, due to the blue sky and composition. It’s more pleasing to me.
I found one in Cedar Hill Texas, took two weeks to get a name, have some dynamic photos, if you would like me to send, just email. Not sure about the seeds and when to try to propogate, they are full blooms now, are seeds from plume blooms?
I believe the seeds are inside those colorful ‘bean pods.’
