I reached back into my archives for this photo of the last moments of sunset at Victoria, BC, Canada. As usual, the photo doesn’t do justice to actually being there. I needed a tripod for a longer exposure time but I had to make do shooting this handheld.
Post-processing consisted of boosting the color levels and contrast a small amount and lowering the clarity for a slightly softer feel. My vantage point was forty or fifty feet above the water which provided the interesting reflections of sunset colors nearer the bottom of the frame.
It may not be a fall photo, but it certainly features fall colors.
It’s hard to believe September is finished and tomorrow will be the first day of October.
I like the rich colors in the water and the deep, ruddy glow in the sky. Beautiful sunset.
Love the reds in this. I too have taken some nice images without the tripod but the effect is totally different. We’re suppose to break those rules!
You know Earl, you might start looking for an image with Christmas colors because that’s just around the bend!
@don: Thanks!
@Monte: I usually do break the rules…I also had trouble staying within the lines coloring as a child. :-)
@Steve. LOL–I’ll get right on that, thanks for the heads-up.
It’s nice to know that someone else gets caught without a tripod and isn’t willing to forego taking the photo. The sun reflected in the water is what makes it for me. Lovely.
October it is. It started raining here today, I usually forget about that when longing to the autumn… Your picture is a good representative for all good with autumn, even if it’s not taken during the season. The sky appears cold enough to fool me it’s autumn. Those reflections of the sky in the ripple in the lake are really nice, especially since the water seems calmer on the other half of the lake, providing reflections that suits the city lights better. A good one, defenitely worthwhile picking up!
@Anita: I do most of my shooting hand-held unless I already know what I’m taking photos of before hand. I know I should use a tripod more and the results would be better if I would–but it just doesn’t often happen.
@Ove: Truth be told, this photo was taken in the spring. The water nearer the shore was very calm. I didn’t realized how the colors had reflected from the nearby ripples until after the fact.
