A low line of shore was visible at first on the right between the movement of the waves and fog, but when we came further it was lost sight of, and nothing could be seen but the mist curling in the rigging, and a small circle of foam. — John Millington Synge
This photo was made at the Ecola State Park in Oregon, looking south from Ecola Point.
That was a beautiful poem. The picture accompanies it pretty well. What rocky waters, I wouldn’t get in there by boat without knowing these very well, and this even less in fog. Great picture, the b&w is perfect.
A fine poem to accompany this coastline with fog and mist of the sea. This viewpoint is one of my favorites whenever I get to the Oregon coast – it’s been far too long right now! :-) A fine photograph of the Haystack Rock.
Haystack Rock, so that’s the name of the place. Brings me right to that saying with the needle, you know. It all goes around the fog. Oregon coast-line seems to be beautiful, I’m sure I would love it.
@Don: I didn’t know the rock, “Haystack Rock” had a name. I took the shot after stumbling onto Ecola State Park while on vacation with family and didn’t do much research on it. I can certainly see why it’s called that–thanks for that bit of info! :-)
@Ove: If there’s a needle in this “haystack” I think it’s lost forever. ;-) It is a beautiful area to visit or probably to live for that matter.
Wonderful image Earl. I particularly like the dynamic that takes place between the three rocks here. The foggy environment certainly helps them stand out and makes the comp even stronger.
This works so well I can feel the dampness on my skin. How nice to learn that we are seeing Haystack Rock.
