This first photo is a favorite walking area of mine–a forest section of a small park located not far from my home. It’s the same trail I posted a color version of on July 8th.
I worked up this black and white version made from a slightly different angle then the color one and I like it better.
When I look at this one it brings back a clear memory of being there. That’s a trait I’d like to be able to reproduce in most of my photos–I’m not there yet.
The second photo is at the end of the trail as it breaks into a large open clearing. I’m always a little disappointed when I reach this point and the best part of my walk is left behind.
The overhanging branches and the trail leading back into the woods makes a very attractive image. It would be hard for the “clearing” shot to equal the charm of the path through the trees. Fine pictures.
i can understand why you have it as a favourite place :)
It is easy to see why the clearing feels like the end of the journey. I agree with Don (and you) that it can’t compete with the path with all its mystery and possibilities.
Of course, being a color addict I prefer the color version of this scene. Still, I appreciate the beauty of the the black and white version, as well as your fine craftsmanship in producing it. Lovely subtle tones.
