The last few days here (central North Carolina, US) have been excellent for photographing interesting skies with big fluffy Cumulus clouds. With the rising heat of day a few of these clouds manifest into thunderstorms with heavy rain, winds and lighting.
While these clouds and sky make interesting photos on their own, I’ve also been taking shots as stock images in case I need an interesting “donor sky” for a future project.
I’ve only performed a couple of “sky swaps”–I know some would considering this heresy and I’d never do it if the photo was for documentation or factual depiction.
However, if my goal is art then I consider there to be few limits in my creative toolbox.

A nice cloud shot and very interesting information on how to replace the sky. Thanks for sharing.
I just returned from five days in Florida; while there I saw more “puffy” storm clouds and blue skies than I’ve seen in Astoria in the past ten years combined. The heat and humidity is another story. How do you folks in the south survive summer?
