I did some test shots with the used Nikon AF Micro-Nikkor 200mm f/4 D IF-ED lens I recently won at auction.
Overall I’m pleased with the resulting photos–see the included two macro samples (click on images for larger images.) The lens appears to be sharp even when pushed to its macro and aperture limits but I did notice some chromatic aberration in the Nikon lens cap photo.
The lighting for the lens cap test was severe with the harsh lighting coming from the side. I was also as close as I could move to the object while still being able to focus. This aberration may not occur under more normal use. I didn’t notice it anywhere else.
The manual focus action is smooth and I can’t find any signs of damage to the glass. I also shot landscapes and the results look sharp. I think I got lucky with this one.
Note: These example photos have not been cropped in any way.
still like your 200mm micro? interested in selling it? let me know. Thanks, Steve Sax
Steven, yes still liking it and not looking to sell at this time. If I change my mind I’ll let you know. Thanks!
