This old structure appears to be some type of barn or shed. It has an overhanging roof line for possible equipment storage but also a chimney for a fireplace or stove.
Its design wouldn’t indicate it being a tobacco barn, roof line is not high enough, but perhaps it could have been, or even an early homestead.
There’s something inherently interesting about old structures. They make you wonder about their history and the people who built and used them.
I like to feature them in photos as objects of interest, as in this case against the backdrop of colorful autumn leaves.

You’re killing me, Earl! I really need to get to the mountains, but after driving home for 3 hours, the last thing that I want to do is to get into the car and drive another 3! I guess that I’ll just have to wait until fall comes to the Piedmont! :-) I see a few trees, here and there, changing color in Charlotte, but not much. Perhaps in a couple of weeks.
I understand, Paul! That drive between Charleston and Charlotte has got to be getting old and you normally only have one full day in Charlotte.
My daughter in Asheville said last night it was nearing peak for Autumn colors there, so as you said, in a couple of weeks we should be seeing some of the brightest colors here. :-)
You said it, bud! It gets tiring, for sure, especially when I come home, like last weekend, and drive, drive, drive, then go back. Ughhh! Even so, we need to get together either on a Saturday or Sunday for lunch … it will give me a chance to check out that D700. :-)
