The other morning I took a photo scouting trip around the local area and ended up at Bull Hole Park and swimming hole on the South Yadkin River near Cooleemee, NC.
The levels are down to the point where there’s hardly any water flowing over the old mill dam but there’s still some promising photo possibilities. I arrived early enough that no one was around but late enough that the best early light was being replaced by direct sunlight. I did get a few shots I like.
I noted which direction was East and that sunrise should come up mostly from down river which ought to give some interesting lighting opportunities, especially if there a little mist coming off the water.
I’ll make a pre-dawn trip back for some better shots in the next few weeks and will also be alert for higher water levels in the future.
OK, Earl. Give it up! The exact location so that I can go there and try my hand at it! :-)
Lovely pictures. You’ve piqued my interest!
Exact Location: 35.80639 lat, -80.55947 lon ;-)
Actually Paul, I thought this might be a good spot we could visit together some early morning. First I wanted to go back for one sunrise so I’d be able to provide insight for our visit as to how the light will be.
Don’t know how that’s going to work out now. I’m heading to the beach the middle of next week and then…
