I found myself with a little free time today (something that’s been in short supply these last couple weeks) so I upgraded Meandering Passage to WordPress 2.5.

The upgrade went well without major incidences. I did have two plugin’s that would not reactivate under WP 2.5. One was a 404 (item not found) Notifier plugin and the other was a Akismet Contact Form plugin.

I was running the latest version of each of these plugins so I guess they hadn’t been maintained for WP 2.5.

To get around this I’ve replaced the contract form plugin I had been using with another one that is WP 2.5 compatible and will not use the 404 Notifier for the time being.

This upgrade does require a database upgrade. Be sure and do a database backup prior to starting if you want any possibility of returning to a previous version of WordPress. :-)

Update 04/02/2008:

Under Settings > Misc. I had to remove all slash ( / ) marks I’d put in the default folder specification for uploaded images. My blogging client, Ecto, could not upload to this folder in WP 2.5 with these slashes in that specification. This error concerning the slashes did not occur prior to WP 2.5.

Update 04/07/2008:

I’ve deactivate two more of my long-time plugins as I discovered they were generating 404 Errors. These were the WP-Print and WP-Email plug-ins that allowed visitors to print or email a post.

There’s was an update released to the 404 Notifier plugin mentioned in the original post above so it’s now been updated and reactivated.

  1. Sounds like there is a problem with the media gallery. I had a problem also with the gallery because of the length of the path.

    Besides that, working well!

  2. With older versions of WP I’d specified my default folder for uploaded images using slashes(‘/’). With WP 2.5 Ecto didn’t like those slashes being there. Once I removed them Ecto uploaded the image to the correct location without error. The WP Media Gallery also seems to be working OK without the slashes.

  3. This is the best idea of new wordpress and now I have no problem and thanks for giving this information and please post some another like above.
