I had a few thoughts about the recent flap of the “Here Comes Another Bubble” video and artist rights, but I couldn’t write anything that hasn’t been said before or nearly as well as Jack Baty…
Thought #1. At what point does the quantity-over-quality value proposition of user-generated content so overwhelm us with crap that quality content becomes impossible to find? Seems it may have already happened.
Thought #2. Something feels wrong when the value of a viral video becomes more important than the rights of those of artists and authors whose work was used to create it.
For the record, my own two thoughts: being legal isn’t the same as being right; and funny shouldn’t excuse the quality of HOW one creates and expresses their art.
