Five favorite Cary Grant movies
I was flipping through the channels and came across a showing of the movie “Father Goose” on AMC. I’m a fan of old movies in general, and I’ve enjoy a number of those starring Cary Grant (Archibald Alexander Leach.)
Between 1931 and 1985, Cary Grant appeared in 84 films. With a little thought I’ve listed five of my favorites in chronological order, beginning with the most recent.
Father Goose (1964) Cary Grant, Leslie Caron, Trevor Howard – During WW2, a man persuaded to live on an isolated island and spot aircraft finds himself responsible for a teacher and several students, all female.
Operation Petticoat (1959) Cary Grant, Tony Curtis, Joan O’Brien – World War 2 comedy about a submarine commander who finds himself stuck with a decrepit (and pink) sub, a con-man executive officer and a group of army nurses.
North by Northwest (1959) Cary Grant, Eva Maria Saint, James Mason – A hapless New York advertising executive is mistaken for a government agent by a group of foreign spies, and is pursued across the country while he looks for a way to survive.
An Affair to Remember (1957) Cary Grant, Deborah Kerr – A couple falls in love and agrees to meet in six months at the Empire State Building.
To Catch a Thief (1955) Cary Grant, Grace Kelly – When a reformed jewel thief is suspected of returning to his former occupation, he must ferret out the real thief in order to prove his innocence.
