I’ve been amazed these last couple of day at how much color there has been in the foliage this fall. With the severe drought in this region I thought most of our foliage would probably go from green directly to brown, but that’s not been the case.
As with many people, fall is my favorite season of the year. While walking the other day, my wife made the comment that I seem to have additional energy and emotion each fall and I guess it’s true. I love the colors and the coming of cooler temperatures. I really feel alive.
I would have to say that my second most favorite season is winter. And yes I’ve experienced some harsh winters. I lived in Vermont for a while when I was younger and it dropped to -45F one crisp winter day.
I love to walk in the woods during the winter. It’s so peaceful and quiet with the trees dormant awaiting the arrival of spring. I especially love it if there is a powdering of fresh snow so I can see all the animal tracks.
While these colors may not be equal to those most often present in New England, or perhaps where ever you may be, I’m living large enjoying them here and I’m grateful that the trees managed such a display in this driest of times.
I’m with you, Earl. There’s nothing quite like walking, in the early morning, through an autumn forest or park, bursting with color. It is my favorite time of year, too. I love the color and the smell of autumn.
