A cold front passed through yesterday offering some relief from the high humidity and heat of this past week, making for a beautiful day.  I’m grateful for that.

It was so nice that my wife and I wanted to spend as much time today as possible outdoors.  Also, with the 4th of July, Independence Day, approaching my thoughts have turned to the freedoms we enjoy and those who throughout history have served for and in many cases paid the ultimate price for it’s continuing endurance.  I’m grateful to them.

We visited the National Cemetery in Salisbury, NC today where thousands who have served and fallen are at their final rest.  Included among the count are tens of thousands of unknown U.S. soldiers who died in the Civil War at a local Confederate POW stockade.

I’ll be publishing additional photos of this National Cemetery on the Meandering Passage PhotoBlog this week.  You’ll be able to see them each day as the “Todays Photo” thumbnail on the sidebar of Meandering Passage, or of course view larger versions by clicking through to the PhotoBlog via the thumbnail or the menu item at the top right of the page.

We who are lucky enough to live here have to ensure that our freedom is preserved for our children, their children, and their children’s children.  We must not allow it to be eroded away, even in small bits by those who we have elected to represent and lead us.  Once lost, a freedom is terribly hard to regain. I’m grateful we have that choice.
