I had a slightly disappointing day today at the NC Zoo as far as photography goes. Afer returning home and uploading my photos, I realized that many of them were slightly soft focused. I was using a Nikon AF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 lens. Most of the shots were taken out near the 300mm mark as I was trying to get some close-ups . I’ve used this lens before with no problems so now I’m trying to figure out what I did wrong. Whatever it was I was fairly consistent.
Otherwise is was an okay day. The weather was beautiful but a little warm. We didn’t stay at the zoo as long as I thought we would. It was obviously elementary school field trip day at the zoo and there were small wild children everywhere. After a while the investment of suffering through the screaming and crowding wasn’t worth the return of seeing the animals.
I thought school field trips were suppose to be learning experiences for the kids? Only one time did I hear any of the adults accompanying the children ask any questions of the children about what they were seeing. None of adults were taking the opportunity to teach the children any manors, that’s for sure!

Hey Earl,
Great job with the photos. I absolutely love the Gorilla feet.
Thanks Richard,
On the Gorilla feet, He was a big Silver Back Gorilla that was asleep on his stomach right up next to the glass. My wife and I were so amazed at his feet that I had to get a picture.
I remember visiting the zoo about 10 years ago and staring at one of the gorillas. The look in his eyes was so human-like it was chilling. It was as if he was thinking ‘what the hell are you staring at ?’. Neat.
