When my daughter, Amberle, began college she purchased at that time what was a nice Gateway computer. Well that computers over five years old now and a while back it started overheating with what looked to be power supply issues. A power supply normally would be an easy fix, but this particular model of Gateway was one of their special small designs with a unique, hard to find, power supply.
To make the story short, Amberle was in dire need of a computer and I wasn’t sure I’d be able to fix her old one. So, I gave her my Apple Powerbook G4 laptop. I knew this would be convenient for her since it was a laptop. My only concern was that she’s always used Microsoft XP. Could she make the switch to Apple as quickly as she needed to?
My fear was for nothing. She’s taken to the Apple Mac like a duck to water. She’s even done a video slide show for a friends travelmate school project using the Apple iLife suite of applications. I thought I would share it. Howie’s the stuffed bear.
My son, Aaron, who is now living in Florida, uses an Apple Power Mac Cube as his main computer. He has the same inherent ability with computers.
Hummm…now I just need to convert my two wonderful step children to Apple’s. I imagine they would say, “Well just give us one and we’ll convert!” LOL
P.S. I did manage to fix Amberle’s old computer…but I don’t think she wants it back.

Who would?! I’ve often thought of switching to Mac myself, but haven’t done so. I only run Lightoom, Photoshop, M$ Money, and M$ Word. I could get by with other programs, but our laptops are windoze, too. Also, for the money, I can get a lot more computer for the money without the Apple logo on it. :-) I am NOT a M$ fan, to be sure, but …
Hi Paul,
You’re right that initially you can get a lot more computer with a generic Windows PC. But here’s some things I’ve experienced that make Mac’s a bargain for me.
1. They hold their value. Search on ebay for older Mac’s and you’ll see that they hold their value amazingly well where a PC is worthless in two to three years.
2. Support…At this time, no viruses, no anti-virus software, almost no mal-ware and no slowdown or needed OS maintenance reinstalls. My wife used Windows for some time and it kept me busy keeping her’s running…now she’s on a Mac and I hardly ever have to do anything to her computer. Times money, and the less I have to maintain a PC the more time I can be creative on it or be out taking photos.
3. Things just work. Easy installs and uninstalls. Plug and play that works well. Extreamly easy networking. etc. I feel more producting on a Mac.
For me these three things more then offset the initially cost. Plus I’m voting my opinion by not buying Microsoft. :-)
Earl, there is not one single point that I can disagree on! Not a single one! It’s always in the back of my mind. I’ve used Macs before and really liked them. They are far superior machines!
