ABOUT RCDEFAULTAPP:

Rubicodes’ RCDefaultApp is a free Mac OS X preference pane that provides an easy solution for setting the default application preferences used for various URL schemes, file extensions, file types, MIME types, and other identifiers. In addition you can use RCDefaultApp to choose the preferred application for each Internet protocol such as web, email, newsgroups, and FTP as well as setting the application when digital cameras or FireWire webcams such as iSight are connected to the computer.

While you can set all of these preferences from different locations within OS X, such as using the Finder’s Get Info panes to set the default application for file extensions, RCDefaultApp provides a one-stop easy and intuitive solution for controlling and customizing your applications for your own preferences.¬† I’ve personally found it to be invaluable to set up my Mac to run and operate the way I want it to. With RCDefaultApp I can be assured that when I open a file it will open in the application I most often use.¬†

INSTALLATION AND USE:

RCDefaultApp install as a preference pane in System Preferences and operates much as any other preference pane. I’ve used this application for some time and have had no problems with it.¬† I’m currently using OS X 10.4.8 on a PPC Mac Pro. RCDefaultApp is an universal application for both PPC and Intel Mac’s.

The application is free to download and use from the link above.
