I was recently re-reading a post on this blog and I realized the font size of my main content was too small for easy reading (at least for these old eyes). It was a simple job to edit the CSS file to increase the font size from a 11 pt to 13 pt.¬† However, after I increased the font size the column width didn’t look right to me, the line appeared to be short. So I changed the fonts back to 11 pt. and made a to-do notation for myself to modify Meandering Passage’s WordPress theme when I had more time.

Those changes were made today and were fairly easy:

  • I changed the width of the entire blog from 800 to 950 pixels. I left the two right side columns at their original width and changed the main content area from 578 to 728 pixels. I widened the masthead, menu, and footer, to a matching 950 pixels.
  • During this process I ran all the graphical elements through Photoshop and was able to reduce their size from 40 to 60%. These elements were small to begin with, but any reduction helps reduce the page load time.
  • I increased the main post text size from 11 to 13 point and tightened up the comments, related post, and bookmark sections. I also added an extra space between post to make it easier for the eye to separate one post from the other. I’ve noticed with a few blogs that posts seem to run into following posts. Without a clear separation it makes it hard to read and follow sometimes. Especially if you’re like me and tend to skim and jump ahead on occasion while reading.

The above changes to Meandering Passage are complete and you should be viewing them now. You may not have noticed the changes if I hadn’t posted this, but if you have any format related problems please let me know. I wouldn’t think the width change to 950 pixels would affect most people, but there may be a few.

As always, I welcome and appreciate any feedback.
