I was reading an interesting piece the other day on how ones imagination is the most powerful tool that people possess. It allows you to imagine things that could be and rehearse the future you want. This article went on to say that when you use your imagination to visualize and project yourself into a future situation you are able to say “how do I want this to turn out,” and then imagine behaving in ways that will bring about those results.

This “rehearsal” allows you to take charge of your thoughts and emotions, reducing stress and anxiety, while allowing you to control your reactions and therefore your future. It’s similar to driving; if you continue to look at the side ditch the natural tendency will be to steer in that direction, so if you want to remain straight on the road your main focus must be toward where you want to go. In the same way, if you use your imagination to look at the future or results you want you’ll naturally move toward those results.

I think this article struck a cord with me because lately I’ve been thinking of needing to align some parts of my life to a direction that is closer to what my values are.
