Perfection and this tree
Perfection and this tree
I’ll post some my “Calendar Project” photos in coming week but I thought I’d post seasonal photos today.

Fall, out with a blaze of color
Fall, out with a blaze of color
Have you ever painted yourself into a corner, knew you were doing it at the time but reason be damned, full speed ahead? There’s this tree not too far from our house, yes, the one in the photo above, which my wife swears is the most perfect tree she’s ever seen. It’s the perfect shape, the perfect size and turns the most perfect colors in the fall. She says this every year about this tree.

A couple of weeks ago she was exalting how beautiful and perfect this tree was this fall and that I should photograph it — she’d been passing it almost every morning on her way to work. For some reason, I still can’t explain, I decided on this particular day to push back and told her it was just a tree like so many other trees and if she thought it should be photographed I’d gladly lend her a camera, which I did, my Canon S90.

Okay, so she did and I gotta admit it’s a pretty nice tree. Maybe not perfect (saving face) but pretty nice. ;-)

This second photo I made yesterday as we took the dogs to a nearby park for a walk. It’s late in the season but this one tree had the just a few of the brightest red leaves I’ve seen this season. The lighting was right and I like the visual impact and sparse beauty of this shot.

  1. That red is spectacular

  2. I like how the perfect tree shows a gradation of color, from the leave high up down to the lowest leaves.

  3. It is a gorgeous tree with a spectacular colour palette, imagine how striking it would have looked if you’ve made the shot. :)

  4. Bonnie is right, it is the perfect tree and she’s done a good job of capturing it for us. It won’t be long and she’ll be asking for the D700. :-) You’ve still got some nice colors, we are almost all done in Ohio. Enjoy your week!

    • Monte, don’t be giving Bonnie any ideas about my D700! That first photo was a couple of weeks ago — our colors are almost gone now as well.

  5. I’m glad she took the challenge to shoot the tree herself. Nice image. The sparse leaves on the other tree are amazingly brilliant. Very nice shot too!

  6. Well, to be honest, Earl, that is a pretty nice tree! :) Great job, Bonnie! LOL

    • Paul, ok, I see who’s friends and supporters now and who’s not! ;-) Yeah, it was a nice tree.

  7. Earl,

Beautiful photos and stunning color. Our foliage is just about gone up this way. In the western part of MA this morning, they had a light covering of snow, and it was windy, dark and raining all day. Oh, how I wish I could have just stayed in bed, haha.
    Very nice photos Earl!

  8. If it’s not the perfect tree, its pretty close! I love the outstanding fall colors.

    • Well it’s obvious from the comments I’ll be eating crow for while now about that “perfect” tree. Thanks, Steve! :-)

  9. Thanks for the support everyone! So, is it white or red wine that goes best with crow? (I’m just sayin’, honey…..)
