I’ll sometimes come across another photographer whose technique strikes my fancy to the point where I want to experiment in that same direction. In this case it was Grant Legassick using a technique of combining a panorama and sub-set photo to give a unique viewer experience–kind of a “here you are” moment.

River Park at Cooleemee Falls (Bull Hole)

This panoramic is from Cooleemee Falls River Park (Bull Hole)…a location you’ve seen me post many photos of before. The top segment photo is taken from the panorama at the bottom.

I used photos I already had to cobble together a first trial. The panorama segments were merged in Adobe Photoshop and then the subset was extracted. Final combined construction was done in Photoshop.

The four photographs that created the panorama were not what I would have chosen with this project in mind as they were shot free hand with an ultra wide lens, hence some distortion.

But, they were on hand.

I’m not entirely happy with this first effort, but I like the technique well enough to revisit it in the near future. Next time will be with dedicated photographs specifically taken for this purpose.
