A few days ago I was reading a piece written by my friend Paul Lester about “Signature shots.” These are repeating themes or compositions that naturally attract you and as a photographer may often find there way into your shots.

Paul, at the end of his post, left the open question “Do you have any particular type of shot you simply cannot resist?

I’ve been thinking about that question and looking over various photos I like.

I don’t know that this a Signature Shot, but I like a photo that strongly depicts depth. It may be accomplished with varying shades or shadows of the color palette or through the use of receding or converging lines and angles, both are good.

Scagway, Alaska

In nature and landscape photography, I like to “feel” that third dimension. If I don’t, I’m missing part of the experience.

  1. Bonnie & Earl – Darryel and I loved the pictures. They are awesome!!! We are planning our trip to Alaska beginning July 30. After seeing your pictures and your information about your cameras . . . we’ve decided that we’re not even going to take a camera . . . we’re just going to use your pictures !!!!

    Thanks so much for sharing.

There’s 4,800 more where those came from so i probably did take enough for several trips! ;-)
