We’re currently in a wonderful small country RV Park near Lockhart, TX.  We’re planning on staying here a month to let a little of the winter season pass us by.

In our previous post, we’d mentioned being in Rockport for several weeks working a job. An on-the-spot business decision removed that job from our schedule providing an opportunity for Bonnie and me to have an in-depth discussion about what we really wanted to do and accomplish this year.  Turns out we both really want to travel more this year.

The wonderful folks at AGS are letting us take a leave-of-absence and we’re using this month of winter to plan our route and agenda. When we leave here we will head west. Changes in plans are becoming the norm these days.

  1. That’s great that you have that flexibility to stop working for a bit and do more travel. Before you know it, you’ll be on the west coast gazing at the Pacific. How cool is that? :D

    • Yeah, we didn’t know what our options were so we were simply honest and upfront about our wishes for this year and the good folks at AGS offered to put us on the “inactive list” where there’s perhaps the future option of coming back to work again.

I’m scoping out our travel options for the year and have gotten some good advice on some things to see. We’ll leave here near the end of February and start westward probably spending a couple of months in the New Mexico, Arizona and southern Utah moving on in a direction still up in the air when the temperatures begin to get hot in those areas. I hope to have it all planned and reservations made in a couple of weeks and of course I’ll share here. It’s all pretty cool…we’re excited! :-)

  2. Wow! Love that old oak tree! I’m with Paul and think that’s great for you guys. Changes in plans are becoming the normal these days. One of the reasons you took off in this adventure was to just travel and not work. The spontaneity of a nomadic lifestyle was part of the draw. While working lessens the financial burden of this lifestyle it does alter it. I am now patiently waiting to find out whats up next for you. :-) And, there is nothing wrong with the west coast idea!!

    • What that tree could have witnessed in it’s thousand years…pretty amazing! You’re spot on, Monte, about what was a big part of the attraction of this adventure. Like I was telling Paul in the comments above, we’re heavy into planning the coming year, both routes and stop-over points. My goal is to have it all ironed out in a couple of weeks. Thanks!

  3. All I can say, Brooks, is that where you are now looks a lot more pleasant than where I am now. Barb and I spent a little time on Padre Island some years ago (it was hot!), but I don’t think we ever made it to Rockport. I also can’t wait to hear how your travel plans develop. You can’t go wrong with southern Utah in the spring, though!

    • Southern Utah will certainly get a good share of our Spring attention…I’ll share more details of our travel plans for this year in a couple of weeks when I hope we have most of the details firmed up. It’s supposed to hit 80 degrees here this weekend then be cooler this next week — no complaints from us.

  4. What an amazing tree – one almost feels to be not worthy to be in its presence. Good for you guys in retiring from some of your retirement. :-)
