The Cat
Watchful – The Cat
‘But I don’t want to go among mad people,’ said Alice. ‘Oh, you can’t help that,’ said the cat. ‘We’re all mad here.’ – Lewis Carroll

Watching or reading the current news I often suspect the cat was indeed right — the older I get the madder it all seems.

I’ve owned cats in the past but I’m a dog person these days. However, while strolling in the park this motley cat caught my attention. My presence warranted only a slight glance as it watched over its kingdom from a slight vantage point. A cat never needs anyones approval.

  1. A fine shot of this cat who seems relaxed and content doing his/her own thing. The aloofness of cats is a large part of their appeal. Nice shot.

  2. I just love this image, Earl, not that I’m a cat lover or anything like that. I think you have framed this well, placed the cat in a good place within the image. It tells a story all by itself. And, you know sometimes when I see a cat relaxed like that I envy them, they worry so little. Have a good weekend and don’t worry.

    • Monte, thanks, glad you like it. Yeah, this cat definitely seemed to be in its happy place. :-) I hope you have a good weekend as well.

  3. very sweet image . nicely composed !

  4. Very nicely done, Earl.

  5. Great image and thought.

It is a mad world. Last night I was listening to the scanner and heard a trooper get assaulted after a domestic complaint, the suspect is still on the loose, and then with the next hour I heard three more calls for domestic problems.

Sometimes I don’t know how I lasted 26 years on the job.

    • Yeah, and this economy, and high unemployment has made things even more dangerous.

Don, am I reading that right, you were a trooper for 26 years?

  6. “I sometimes wonder whether our planet is the asylum of the universe for disordered minds.” (Goethe)

I wonder what Goethe would say today? Heck, he probably wouldn’t say anything. He’d just head for the nearest mountain peak and take up solitary residence.

Actually, I have a theory. I think stupidity and ignorance has its own gene, and that gene is dominant. The gene for sanity and rationality is recessive. Maybe 1 in 10 people have it. So as the world population increases, the absolute number of stupid, ignorant souls becomes very large. And with the internet and smart phones, their combined voice drowns out everything else. The voices of reason have no chance at all to be heard. Sooner or later, however, we’ll reach a tipping point. Lots of very bad things will happen. If we’re lucky, maybe we’ll get to start all over again.

    But it’s just a theory……..
