Let the rain kiss you. Let the rain beat upon your head with silver liquid drops. Let the rain sing you a lullaby. – Langston Hughes

A ray of light

by Earl on May 29, 2009

in Photography

This week between weather that would be more fitting for the North-West (rainy and cloudy every day) and trying to keep close observations on our dog Foster, in case of another seizure, I’d not taken any photos and by yesterday it was getting to me.
So I grabbed a camera and headed to the yard [...]

First, thank-you everyone for your kind comments and emails in response to yesterdays post regarding Foster.
As a quick follow-up, Foster did not have any seizures yesterday or last night following the three Grand Mal Seizures he had the day before. His blood tests came back with no indication of any problem or issue.
Since Foster had [...]

A tough day

by Earl on May 27, 2009

in Observations

Yesterday was a tough day. Foster, our Basset and Lab mix, (in the photo he’s the short, stout guy in front) had three Grand Mal Seizures. He’s never had a seizure before, which we’re aware of, and it was emotionally gut wrenching to watch helplessly as he went through these. Especially since he’s less then [...]

Taking sky and cloud inventory

by Earl on May 26, 2009

The last few days here (central North Carolina, US) have been excellent for photographing interesting skies with big fluffy Cumulus clouds. With the rising heat of day a few of these clouds manifest into thunderstorms with heavy rain, winds and lighting.
While these clouds and sky make interesting photos on their own, I’ve also been taking [...]

Those who fell so we could continue on – National Cemetery, Salisbury, NC
Perhaps someday peace will rule and mankind can coexist without wars and conflicts. I hope that day comes.
But today, Memorial Day in the United States, is a day we here remember and honor those who embodied the spirit of duty and made the [...]

High-tech camping

by Earl on May 22, 2009

in Observations, Photography

While walking around the lake at Dan Nicholas Park I came upon this satellite dish perched by the edge of the woods affording it a clear view of the sky. The video cable ran from the dish back through the woods disappearing from sight after several hundred feet in the direction of local campsites.
My understanding [...]

Open publication – Free publishing – More sofobomo
I finished my SoFoBoMo ‘09 book a couple of days ago but was considering holding it for a while–I even blog about holding it yesterday. This thought was born from my own insecurities. Bonnie, my wife, got her first look at the book last night and she strongly [...]

Gordon McGregor recently published a post, “enthusiastic about enfuse,” on using the open source application Enfuse for HDR photography. I’ve experimented some with HDR and normally use Photomatix. Based on Gordon’s results I decided to take a look at Enfuse.
You can read Gordon’s post for more of the technical aspects of Enfuse but his opinion [...]

I believe, except for minor editing, my SoFoBoMo ‘09 book is finished. However, I’m not releasing it until near the 31 day mark, around the 1st of June. This delay may be a matter of my own nerves or wanting to have every chance to view it with fresh eyes before I let it go. [...]
