NW to Alaska: Rating The Services

by Earl on May 30, 2008

in Alaska Trip

I’ve written a number of post on our recent Alaskan Cruise trip sharing some of the locations, photos and activities but I’ve not taken the time to offer our experiences and opinions on some of the various services we encountered during this trip. … Norwegian Cruise Lines (NCL) FreeStyle Cruising , Rating: 5 of 5 – People seem to have strongly diverging opinions of NCL FreeStyle Cruising and after some thought I believe which side you take depends on what you expect from your cruise.

Apple OS X 10.5.3 Update

by Earl on May 29, 2008

in Apple Mac, Software, Upgrades

Apple released OS X 10.5.3 yesterday. I downloaded and installed it today without noted problems. It was certainly a sizable OS X update release, running about 480 MB on my machines.
Now there may be “new-to-mac” users out there wondering what these OS X update releases are and if they’re absolutely necessary.
As a Mac user there’s [...]

[ Cloudy Morning, Columbia River, Cascade Locks, OR ]

It’s been a whirlwind few days sampling the beauty of Oregon. Today, Tuesday, May 27th, we drove from Cascade Locks, OR, via I-84, pass Mt. Hood on Oregon 35, and then returned to Portland by Oregon 26.

We arrived back in Seattle, WA, at about 6:00 AM on Sunday Morning, May 25th.
There was no rush to leave the boat so we had a nice breakfast before beginning the disembarking process a little after 9 AM. The process was very easy, taking a total of about 40 minutes.
The ease of the disembarking process [...]

From Glacier Bay we turned back southward to Ketchikan, AK. We arrived at Ketchikan early on Friday, May 23rd, for a scheduled six hours port call. I could have spent more time at Ketchikan…days even.

in Alaska Trip

We departed Skagway last night and travelled to Glacier Bay, AK, arriving Thursday mid-morning, April 22nd.

[ Glacier Bay, Alaska ]

I’m not certain what my expectations were for Glacier Bay but they were far exceeded by the austere grandeur we discovered. You’d have to see it to truly understand the awesome beauty [...]

in Alaska Trip

I’m overwhelmed by the indescribable natural beauty we’re seeing. At the moment It’s impossible to compared it’s grander to anything I’ve viewed before…it far exceeds any previous personal experience.
Let me update the trip status…
After departing Seattle on Sunday, Monday was spent sailing north to Juneau, AK. I’m calling Monday, May 19th, the gray day because [...]

NW to Alaska: Seattle

by Earl on May 20, 2008

in Alaska Trip

I’ve hear that Seattle is beautiful and now I’d have to personally agree. This is my first visit to Seattle but Bonnie has been here before on business. I’d enjoy more time to explore the area.
We spent Saturday night at the Seattle Marriott on Alaskan Way across from Pier 66 where Norwegian Cruise Line [...]

If the longest journey begins with but a single step then our trip to Alaska began with sitting for almost four hours in one of the tightest airline seats I’ve ever experienced. It was in an Airbus A320, row eight.
I’m sure in the process of laying out the seating rows for the AirBus A320 [...]
