Rowan Holiday Caravan Parade

by Earl on November 22, 2007

in Observations

As a child I can remember my mother always taking my sister and I to the Holiday or Christmas Parade in the small town I grew up in.

I don’t think small town parades have changed much in the last 40 years or so and it seems that now, as then, kids still enjoy them immensely.

I recently experienced my first problem while installing Apple’s OS X 10.5 Leopard.

This install took place on a Mac Cube upgraded with a 1.2 ghz G4 processor, 1 gb of memory and a 120 gB hard disk. With this install I’d selected to do an upgrade which upgrades over the current version of OS X, in this case Tiger 10.4.x

Loving these fall colors

by Earl on November 14, 2007

in Observations, Photography

I’ve been really amazed these last couple of day at how much color there has been this fall. With the severe drought in this region I thought most of our foliage would probably go from green directly to brown, but that’s not been the case.

A while back I had mentioned that I was taking on the project of building a table extension. I’m happy to report that that project is complete and that I’m mostly satisfied with the results.

in Linux, Reviews

Ryan Paul at Ars Technica has published a detailed review of Ubuntu 7.10 “Gutsy Gibbon”.

Leopard, still good here

by Earl on November 6, 2007

in Apple Mac, Observations

I’ve got to say that I agree with David Rogers, Groundhog Day, in his recent post. I too am still liking Leopard, but these days I’m not finding the “fire” to blindly defend it as I once would have. Like David, I’ve largely outgrown that and have found there are much more important things in [...]

Sunday Recap

by Earl on November 4, 2007

in Observations

It’s been a fast and busy weekend. The wife and I continue our home renovations. This past week the painting of our dining room was finished so we moved to applying finishing touches in the form of drapes, paintings, lamps, etc. This almost completes our quest to refresh the house, removing most traces of stale [...]
