So it’s beginning to look like there will be a OS X 10.4.11 maintenance release before Leopard 10.5 is released in October 2007.  OS X 10.4 has been a somewhat buggy release with audio and webcam problems.  It’s unclear what other fixes 10.4.11 might include or even if it will be released for both PPC and Intel.

Apple Mac event Tuesday, August 7th?

by Earl on July 31, 2007

in Apple Mac

According to AppleInsider:Apple Inc. is gathering analysts and members of the media for a Mac-related press event to be held at the company’s headquarters in Cupertino on Tuesday, August 7th, AppleInsider has been told…In speaking to journalists by phone, Apple representatives were reportedly very clear in expressing that no iPhone or iPod product announcements were in the cards….word of next week’s event was initially spread Tuesday afternoon via phone calls from Apple’s marketing division.  The event will begin at 10:00 am PDT at the Apple Town Hall on company’s Cupertino-based campus…If true, and it’s not iPhone or iPod related, then perhaps the rumored iMac revision may be introduced prior to the beginning of the holiday shopping season.

Since I made comments on Episode I, I thought I would follow up with a few comments here: Episode II was shorter, 20 mins vs. 30+ minutes.  This was welcome change and made the videocast as a whole more enjoyable.Would still like to see non-intrusive editing with perhaps over-layed captions at the beginning of each segment of who, where and when.  The video quality of Episode II was much improved.I’m still interested.

My answers to Why Should You Hire Me

by Earl on July 30, 2007

in Business, IT

Below are the questions from the article, with my answers:Describe your toughest assignment so far.The toughest assignment or project I’ve ever done would be a four-year project involving a multi-million dollar implementation of a common ERP System at five different locations….  If it’s performance or behavior related I would first exhaust other means to reach this person, but it’s sometimes necessary.Tell me about a problem your company had and how you used technology to solve it.Our company was going through the process of becoming certified for QS/ISO which required the tight control of thousands of technical documents for originality and approval.  Using our primary email system, Lotus Notes, and a custom developed database application we came up with an electronically approval and control document system that worked well and was praised by the auditor during the certification process. What are your long-term goals? To be a part of a successful team or organization and to contribute.

I thought CommonCraft’s plain English explanation of Social Networking was so cute that I would highlight their video explanation of what a RSS feed is.If your not into tech, these video’s represent a common sense approach to understanding common Internet terms and terminology.

I wish that it was still true in America that you’re innocence until proven guilty but recent events have left doubts that this still holds up to everyday practice.  Today, I became aware of this anti-Vick site that is dedicated to having the football player Michael Vick removed from the Atlanta Falcons, the NFL and from any type of corporate sponsorship….  However, living here in North Carolina I’ve been subjected to this same type of quick conviction without trial mentality with the recent Duke lacrosse players case.

I recently published a post looking at three significant Mac OS X desktop blog authoring applications and for balance I thought I would give a brief look at a couple of the existing browser based alternatives.Browser based blog authoring tools for the most part will not have the depth of features of a standalone applications….  ScribeFire features WYSIWYG and HTML editing, live previews, link and image insertion tools, multiple blog support, tag/category support, page listings, notes, and previously posted article editing capability.  It also supports Technorati and del.icio.us tags, trackbacks, pinging, and image/file uploads.A unique tool of ScribeFire is the ability to query Technorati for related or linking blog posts for an article so you can see and consider all related data.ScribeFire is a very capable blog editing tools but there are no image management or editing features built in. You must prepare your images prior to upload with this applications.ScribeFire is free and can be downloaded here.
