Fortune Magazines Brent Schlender has declared the AppleTV to be a dud.Why Apple TV is a dud – June 11, 2007:Take Apple TV, the $300 set-top box that Jobs unveiled last October and that finally started shipping in at the end of February, several weeks late….  Apple, as of today, is offering a BTO (Build to Order) option of a 160Gb hard drive for $100 extra and have announced that some new software features will be rolled out mid-June including support for YouTube videos….  First thing in the morning, with a hot cup of fresh coffee, I sit down in my favorite chair in the living room and switch the HDTV and Apple TV on to quickly check for any new Video Cast that I subscribe to on iTunes.

What happened to suspension of disbelief

by Aaron Moore on May 30, 2007

in Observations

The other night my roommate was telling me about a conversation him and some of our friends were having about the show Stargate SG-1, and not understanding what there is to like about it. Just to let you know they’re all in the film program down here at Full Sail College, so they see it [...]

When we purchased our current home a little over a year ago we knew there were many changes, updates and refreshes that we wanted to do. The people who lived here before us were smokers and had inside dogs. Besides, their taste in colors were nothing like ours.
If you watch the real-estate shows on [...]

Michael Arrington of Techcrunch recently posted an article of how the money is pouring into Silicon Valley, the situation is insane, no longer fun and the valley could use a downturn….  Today, Loren Feldman of 1938 Media chimes in to say that Arringtons right it kinda sucks and that malaise is the word lately. It would seem we have the beginnings of an epidemic here….  If they don’t like what they’re doing, how they’re doing it and where they’re doing it, then they should change it up.I would suggest that part of the problem could be the inbred circle they travel and link in. Maybe they should bring in some new blood, connect with new ideas and experience fresh communications.

Richard Querin talks about his recent experiences with people doing job interviews and ask the question,,,”…aren’t you trying to make a good impression?”…  A few months ago I would of said yes you should try and make a “good” impression, but after a recent experience I’d say the real goal is to make the “right impressions.”A couple of months ago I went for a second interview for a fairly high level IT position….  The President seemed to take great pride in the fact that he was a regular joe who ran things very informally, which by the way was why they needed the senior IT position because they had no structure or policies and it was effecting their systems.

According to Motorola, UK mountaineer Rod Baber made the worlds highest mobil phone call and text messaging from the heights of Mount Everest on Monday, May 21, 2007.  So now you never have to worry about breaking that cellular umbilical cord….  Everest just became a lot more crowded.

According to a linux advocate who runs the Linuxquestions site, an e-mail was received from an unnamed Dell employee who offered some details about Dell’s Linux plans.Blog report: Dell Ubuntu machines to debut Thursday:Dell is expected on Thursday to begin selling three models of its laptop and desktop computers loaded with Ubuntu Linux. It will be very interesting to watch how these PC are marketed and how well they sell.  I’m sure Microsoft is watching this experiment as well.

Japan’s Lost Generation – BusinessWeek – Ian Rowley & Kenji HallWhile Japan’s economy is now experiencing reasonable 2% growth, there is a generation of Japanese that are referred to as the “lost” or “suffering” generation.  This group is made up of some 3.3 million Japanese aged 25 to 34 who mainly work as temps or contract employees.  For these Japanese all is not well in Japan and may never be.

My son Aaron has been a regular reader of this blog and I decided I would offer him an opportunity to contribute….  Aaron, being 26, has a completely fresh and different view of computers, media and the Internet then I do.  I hope that this new viewpoint will be entertaining to the readers as well as inspiring for me.

Unsanity’s Shapeshifter 2.4

by Aaron Moore on May 18, 2007

in Apple Mac, Reviews, Software

With Shapeshifter you can either drastically change how OS X looks, or just make some minor changes here and there….  You also have the option to completely change almost every aspect of a theme on your own with the guiTweak app. Some of the themes will also change icons, most have desktop pictures included, lots of them have various color schemes to choose from.  I ended up going with a very simple theme, just a few visual and color changes to the windows and menus, different glyphs for minimizing or closing windows, and a different icon set.Overall I don’t see this program as a tool to turn OS X into something else, it just gives it a makeover.

Not only has Steve come out with public statements outlining the future “green” path Apple is taking but most recently Apple is offering a new program that gives schools a chance to recycle their old computers rather than send them to landfills…and they don’t have to be Macs! The California-based firm also pledged to shoulder most of the burden for the effort. Aside from placing the computers on cargo palettes, schools could take a hands-off approach: Apple would collect the systems itself and destroy anything that could become a security risk if left alone…. Hard drives in particular would be broken into “confetti-sized” pieces, Apple said..No matter what the reasons for this action I think it’s a good effort.
