John Watson of “flagrantdisregard” has posted the first part of a series of posts on his experience of switching to Ubuntu Linux as his primary desktop.  John expounds in this first post that any change from what you’re use to is not always easy.  So armed with a decent PC and a need to avoid a Windows Vista upgrade, John began a four week trial of Ubuntu.

Over the past few weeks, I’ve found that the saying “it just works” is about as useful as saying that airplanes “just fly.” It’s an easy thing to say until you have to learn to pilot one. Foreign languages also “just work.” But have you ever tried to learn one?

Linux is like that.

I’m looking forward to reading the rest of John’s experiences.
