Zune long term…is Apple scared?

by Earl on September 29, 2006

in Observations

Yesterday I did a post of how the Zune was going to be a losing proposition for Microsoft during this coming Holiday Season. This was based on the fact that Microsoft had announced that it was going to be losing money on each Zune sold at the price point it had announced.
I may have [...]

Reasons for NOT linking in Blogs

by Earl on September 29, 2006

in Humor

I continue to see posts dealing with the subject of linking or not linking in blogs. Some say that by not linking it is damaging the utility of the blogosphere- both as a conversational medium and as an information resource. That may be true. For me it’s a simply matter of personal integrity and [...]

by Earl on September 28, 2006

in Apple Mac, Observations

Merlin Mann has a post on 43Folders concerning the repackaging of Apple’s .Mac web offering. I’m currently a .Mac subscriber and have been for a couple of years, but I’m undecided if I’ll renew my subscription again.
I joined when I made my switch to the Mac. When you’re changing platforms your looking [...]

Microsoft officially introduced the Zune a couple of days after Apple announced it’s 5th Generation of iPod, along with new lower iPod prices. Rumor has it that Microsoft was originally going to announce a price for the Zune at it’s introduction, but Apple’s lower prices took Microsoft by surprise and so a quick decision to [...]

In a recent MP3 and portable video player picture quality test conducted by ExtremeTech, Apple’s iPod came in at the bottom with poor contrast and color saturation….¬† With this last update Apple should have invested in a larger and higher quality display instead of trying to increase their profit margin on the ipod line.¬† While I had been considering updating my third generation iPod I’ll wait or even consider another player if Apple doesn’t offer a real upgrade soon.

Only a few of the eventual full cast were introduced last night. [...]

The current level of browser vulnerabilities

by Earl on September 25, 2006

in Software

It seems that Symantec has reported that the number of security vulnerabilities in web browsers is growing with the most being found in Firefox. But, it’s also reported that Firefox is also the fastest to patch these vulnerabilities.

How To: Add a new iCal event from Quicksilver

by Earl on September 23, 2006

in How To

TUAW and Hawk Winks has information that can help you do just that. How To: Add a new iCal event from Quicksilver – The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW):A while ago we covered Quicksilver plugins for Gmail and Google Calendar, allowing you to send an email or create a new event (respectively) right from within Quicksilver’s interface.¬† If you aren’t a Google Calendar user though, Quicksilver also offers the same kind of plugin for iCal.¬† Somehow I lost this in my bloggable bookmarks, but last month Tim Gaden at Hawk Wings broke down the syntax for adding an event to iCal with this plugin, and it’s really pretty simple.
