The BrainABC Nightly news has been doing evening spots this week about sleep and the human brain. It seems when you sleep the brain replays the days events, establishes relationships with other known facts, and enhances the memory of those events.

So by sleeping on something you’re actually allowing your brain to process all information and work out logical relationships which could lead to better decisions and conclusions. In addition you’d enhance you memory of those events.

This would suggest that it is wise to take some time when assigned a new project. If you get a good nights sleep and maybe the results will be better.

In a post on Gagetopia.com “Are you Procrastinating? Or are you just Thinking?“, Deane Barker relates how what might be seen as procrastination may really be thinking.

Or is it really just giving the brain a chance to do it’s normal and best processing. I know people who keep a notepad and pen beside the bed to record any ideas they have during the night. I’ve also many times woken up in the morning with a solution to a problem that I was struggling with the night before. Sleep and take time to ponder.
