This Age We Live In

by Earl on February 23, 2006

in Observations

Foregive me as I take a few moments to make some observations about this age we live in. Being in my 50’s I grew up in much different times then now. I look around today and it’s amazing.
We live in an age of almost instant communications where not only the written text of events [...]

Apple OS X and Malware…

by Earl on February 17, 2006

in Apple Mac, Observations, Software

A couple of weeks ago I asked the question if Apple OS X wasn’t a target for virus code writers. I guess with increasing popularity comes the bad along with the good. Just in the last week there have been two prof-of-concept worms for OS X released. Neither of [...]

Who’s Learning What

by Earl on February 16, 2006

in Observations

My original intention with this site was to remain focused on subjects and observations involving personal learning and gaining of new technology based skills. There would be a secondary focus on Apple Mac computers and software that supports this learning experience. I’ve since found that in just setting up this site that it’s I that am learning a great deal about many things that I didn’t originally consider.

Review: NovaMind Version 3.0.11

by Earl on February 11, 2006

in Apple Mac, Reviews, Software

I have found NovaMind to be a valuable addition to my software library. It’s a easy, visual, and fun way to organize my thoughts quickly. It fosters creativity. In can also be used to help with problem solving by graphically defining the problem and presenting ALL the possibilities. The excellent import and export capabilities also make it easy to share you Mind Maps.

Home Network Diagram

by Earl on February 9, 2006

in Observations

I sat down last night and diagramed my home computer network. I‚Äôm amazed at how much larger the network appears when diagrammed. The network’s been added to it a little at a time so my perceptions were of small ‚Äúbits‚Äù. The diagram made me view it as a whole. I knew it [...]

My intrigue with Apple Mac’s

by Earl on February 7, 2006

in Observations

I read an article recently about Mac’s being cool again. When were they not?
I’ve always been intrigued with Mac’s.

In the mid-80’s I ran a Mac OS) emulator on an Atari ST. I found it interesting but inconvenient in that form. Finally two years ago I purchased my first laptop and Mac, a [...]

Change is a Process

by Earl on February 3, 2006

in Observations

Change: definition; to cause to be different, to transform, to lay aside, to switch.

Lately I’ve been thinking a good deal about things related to change, returning to school, switching careers, moving, etc. Change is a condition that’s constantly occurring yet one most people have difficulty dealing with. I’ve come to recognize I’m not [...]

SkillSteps Reviews Policy

by Earl on February 2, 2006

in _Site Policies

The general theme of this site is “using technology and processes to improve individual capabilities and understanding”, and the slogan is “moving forward one step at a time”.
In support of both the theme and slogan, I will offer from time-to-time personal reviews of software, services, and possible hardware, that I have personal experience with. [...]

Review: Lynda.com, On-Line Training Library

by Earl on February 1, 2006

in Reviews

I have spent years working with computers and have enough general knowledge that I can usually sit down and work my way through the basic functions of most programs without having to use the manuals or without any special training. This is good and bad. The good is that I can immediately be productive on [...]
