Red Winter Berries

One of my goals (notice, I didn’t say resolutions) for 2010 is to integrate Meander Passage more with Flickr. I want to do this is to perhaps gain/share some traffic between my Flickr Photostream and this Meandering Passage blog. I’ve had an account with Flickr for some time but have never maintained or [...]

2009 Satistical Recap

by Earl on January 1, 2010

in Blogging, Photography

This, the first day of 2010, seems like a good point to recap some of the more technical statistics of Meandering Passage for 2009 and capture some of my thoughts on them.
Total 2009 Published Posts: 326 (6.27/week average)
My posting habits varied this year — some months I did very good posting and others, well..not so [...]

Thoughts of this blog

by Earl on October 22, 2009

in Blogging, Photography

I always think of brightly colored leaves in the fall but a close second autumn thought is the rich color of Mums (Chrysanthemums). My wife always insures there are wonderful blooms in our yard this time of year…just one of the ways she brings beauty into my life.
My reading each day covers a wide range [...]

Closed comments not intentional

by Earl on September 16, 2009

in Blogging, Observations

I apologize to any who have wanted to make comments recently but have found the comments for a particular post closed. I never purposely close comments but this blog seems to have a mind of its own lately and is closing some at its own discretion.
I think there’s a plugin to blame. Please hang in [...]

Attacks on older versions of WordPress

by Earl on September 5, 2009

in Blogging, Software

Picked this up in my reading this morning:

If you’re running a self-hosted WordPress blog that isn’t up-to-date (version 2.8.4), you’re advised to upgrade immediately to the latest version of the software to avoid an ongoing attack. Users of WordPress.com hosted blogs are not affected.
The warning comes from Lorelle on WordPress after it was [...]

WordPress 2.8.3 has been released and addresses some addition privilege escalation security issues.
I did the automatic upgrade from WordPress 2.8.2 without incident. I did have someone try to hack this site once so I try and keep up with the security releases. Plus with the current WordPress automatic functions upgrades are mostly painless–knock on wood*.
*Knock [...]

On July 25th I posted how I was switching from my beloved NetNewsWire feed reader client to use Google reader. Well, I’ve switched back but yet will still using Google Reader also.
How?
Just the last past week I installed the new version of NetNewsWire (3.2 beta) which syncs with Google Reader, solving all my complaints/problems. I [...]

I’m an Apple Mac fan, I love photography, I like new gadget news, I like to keep up with technical events on the web, I have friends with their own web sites/blogs, and I want to keep up with the technical/business/US/world news on the web. So I have a lot of feeds and the mix and number of feeds are constantly changing. Google Reader.pngFor years I’ve used the newsgator NetNewsWire client application for Mac OS X to manage, view and read the multitude of updates from these RSS feeds.

WordPress v2.8 Released

by Earl on June 11, 2009

in Blogging, Software, Upgrades

Yesterday, June 10th, WordPress 2.8 was released. It includes a theme browser, redesigned widgets interface, improved speed and fixes for a reported 790 bugs. It can be downloaded here.
Personally I think I’ll wait a while for this update. The last one caused some Meandering Passage theme problems and I’m currently not in the mood to [...]

Gnarled: I hate Snap Shots

by Earl on April 27, 2009

in Blogging, Photography

I think I’ve stated this before in a post but it bears repeating.
Here’s a little pet peeve of mine. I hate “Snap Shots” (those little windows from snap.com that pop up when you mouse over a word, text or image). If a blog is using “SnapShots” I’ll seldom subscribe to or read it.
These snap windows [...]

I logged in Meandering Passage Admin this morning and noticed that I’ve passed the 1,000 post mark–this post is post number 1,004.
When I started this blog in January 2006 I didn’t know if I would stick to it this long. There are many “projects” I’ve started in the past and not completed. Like myself, [...]
