Small and insignificant

by Earl on February 16, 2010

in Photography

Looking back through photo archives I’ve pulled a few to process for posting. It’s nice to discover my skills with post-processing have improved and some photos I previously passed over can now be worthy of posting.

This photo was taken from a helicopter near the Juneau International Airport looking southeast down Alaska Highway 7 (AK-7), Egan Dr. towards Juneau, AK.

Weekend Photo

by Earl on September 6, 2009

in Photography

My Nikon D300’s shutter was firing in rapid three round burst as we struggled for altitude after a mid-flight stop on the dark waters of a cove. The float planes roar, my shutters clicking, all went unnoticed as everyones attention was riveted to the amazing scenes outside the glass.

It was a perfect recipe for feeling [...]

Sailing beneath the fog
The fog lifts from the surface of the water but stubbornly clings to the surrounding mountain peaks as a small sailboat makes its way near Juneau, Alaska–I often think how nice it would have been to be in that small boat.

Reworking the claim

by Earl on August 17, 2009

in Photography

I’m going back through some of my photo archives giving a second look to some photos I previously discarded.
Photos that previously filtered out as not interesting are now catching my attention. It’s certainly not the archived photographs that have changed, it’s my personal filters. That’s why I like to flip through some of my older [...]

Day and Night Linked
“Dusk, is just an illusion, because the sun is either above the horizon or below it. And that means that day and night are linked in a way that few things are; there cannot be one without the other, yet they cannot exist at the same time. How would it feel, I [...]

Blue forever

Blue Forever
I pulled this photo from my archives, again from the southern Alaska waterways in May 2008. I remember being amazed by the vast blue waters, sky and distant mountains. It was clear and you could see forever. In stark opposition to this blue vastness there were these green rocky islands covered with trees. The [...]

It will be mostly cloudy in the upper 30s, pretty nice weather. – Alan Dunham
I went to my photo archives for this scene along the Alaskan Coast. It’s grey moodiness seems appropriate for today with our current cold rain predicted to turn to ice and perhaps a substantial snow before ending.
Welcome to March; “In like [...]

Ketchikan homes

by Earl on December 3, 2008

in Photography

If you stand near the main docks of Ketchikan, Alaska, looking inland and slightly westward you’ll view these neighborhood homes situated on a hillside.
To my eyes the homes fit perfectly with notions of Alaska and while this photo was take recently, May ‘08, it looks somewhat timeless.

Catching Up: Photo Organizing

by Earl on November 25, 2008

in Photography

I’ve been reviewing, key-wording and reorganizing some of this years photos getting ready for next year. I’m also taking a fresh look at the photos to see if there are any gems I may have missed on the first go around.
The above photo was taken from a float plane looking out toward George Inlet, Alaska [...]
