Murrell's Inlet, SC

My wife works for a company that participates in an annual business conference at the beach in South Carolina each summer for a couple of days. Of course it’s usually part business and a mini-vacation rolled into one.

Empty Beach — Myrtle Beach, SC
My daughter has accompanied us the last couple of years and this year a friend of hers came along. I’m sure she had a better time with her friend there, not having to spend so much time with the “old folks.”

I took very few photos and the ones I did were either with my cell phone or my Canon S90. The image above is looking out over Murrell’s Inlet, SC, at night. Murrell’s Inlet is a historic fishing village which now hosts some wonderful restaurants.

The second photo is something you don’t see very often these days — a nearly empty stretch of beach.

I thought the S90 did a passable job in low light with an ISO of 640 braced against the railing of the main dock for a 1/4 sec exposure at f/2.8.

  1. Nice capture, particularly without a tripod!

    • Jim, thanks. I had the bottom of the camera resting against the dock rail to give it a good bit of stability.

  2. Its always nice when you can getaway and mix business and pleasure. I am thinking the more I see of the S90 the more I like it as a back up.

    • Don, yeah, the S90 is a nice and small camera with the same sensor and most of the features of the larger Canon G11. For a camera you can carry easily in a pocket it’s hard to beat it.

  3. Amazing composition . Blue- Green composition is fantastic !

    • Mariana, I appreciate the kind words. I’m continuing to learn the abilities of my handy pocket camera, the Canon S90, and I’m continuing to be impressed with some of the results.
