Kids playing in the river
The Mixing Bowl

Ingredients:

  • 1 large helping of hot, humid weather
  • 1 swiftly moving cool shallow river
  • 1 bunch of children, the more the better

Directions:

Place the ingredients in a common area and allow them to interact. Then serve on the rocks and allow to sit.

Servings:

A whole heaping helping of fun! ;-)

What this photo doesn’t show is the dozen or so children in the river to the left of these four. I believe they were all part of the same group with at least one adult supervising. The shot was taken from a bridge on the Blue Ridge Pkwy over the Oconaluftee River near Cherokee, NC. I remember as a child my mother would take us on picnics and we could sometimes wade and swim in the creek/shallow river — what fun that was.

  1. A fine action shot of summer fun. The shallow river is an ideal place for kids who may or may not know how to swim. Nice shot.

  2. Where’s my trunks? Heck I remember when we would go fishing down on the crick and end up swimming bare naked. Getting back to the farm house and having home made ice cream. What a life and one ingredient missing from your recipe. :-)

  3. Earl,

Nice shot. Wouldn’t mind being in there now.
