I downloaded the Adobe Lightroom 3 beta yesterday and have started taking a look at it. You can find details on many of the changes and new features here. The beta can be installed on the same computer as your working copy of Lightroom 2.

No real impression yet, but it appears there are some useful new capabilities. Anyone else looking at it?

  1. Hey, Earl. I thought about having a look at it, but, based on the review at Luminous Landscape, I didn’t see much that would make me want to give it a try, besides, I don’t modify my photos that much. I did see one interesting feature, though. LR will give the the ability to make some changes to the watermark as to where it will be placed, the size, and how it would look.

I’ll be interested to hear your impressions. You are, after all, the go-to guy for technical stuff. :-) I count on you!

  2. I want to spend some time with it and post some thoughts about areas I see it offering advantages over Lightroom 2–perhaps by next week. :-)

Boy, are you in trouble if I’m the go-to guy! I’m just the bench warmer. ;-)

I am looking forward to your comments as well–I am out in the country and have a dial up connection. Thus, whenever I download something, I scrutinize carefully to make sure it is worth the length of time it takes to download. I do love LR2, so let us know what you think!

  4. I understand the processing engine is changed quite a bit – I may download the beta just to give that a run. For many images I used to like Nikon Capture’s rendering, but it was just too difficult to integrate into my workflow.

  5. @QPB (Mary Ann) – I’m going to try and use the LR3 Beta to do a batch of photo using my current workflow and see where there may be advantages or disadvantages…I write up something.

@Mark – If you do download it, I’d be interested in hearing your impressions as well. I like DXO Optics rendering but find it also very difficult to integrate…I’ve almost quite using it because of this.
